NEWS BENGAL TODAY : University Grants Commission, New Delhi has sanction Special assistant Programme Phase-II for five years (2018-2023) based on thrust area “GPS Positioning, DNA Barcoding Endangered and threatened plants of South West Bengal. Herbarium digitization, medicinal, dye yielding, hemiparasites, fiber yielding plants of South West Bengal and Characterization of Secondary metabolitesi”, and UGC have sanctioned five national level seminars on thrust area. Professor Ranjan Chakraborti, The Honourable Vice Chancellor is the Chairman of UGC-DRS-SAP-II and Professor Amal Kumar Mondal, Professor of Botany and Coordinator UGC-DRS-SAP-II and also the Organizing Secretary of this seminar IARMP-2019. Two external experts Professor V.K.Anand, Professor of Botany, The University of Jammu, India and Professor P.S.Bisht, GBP University, Uttarakhand, India has selected for two UGC-Nominees for UGC-DRS-SAP-II Advisory members. Both UGC-DRS-SAP-II and DST, SERB, India sponsored two days National Seminar on Interdisciplinary Approach of Research on Medicinal Plants (IARMP-2019) has organized by Department of Botany & Forestry on 12-13th March, 2019 and the seminar inaugurated by Professor Subrata Kumar De, Dean of Science (Acting) and President of this Seminar. Professor Amal Kumar Mondal, Organizing Secretary IARMP-2019 has given his welcome address. Dr. Debdulal Banerjee, Associate Professor of Botany and Dr. Asis Kumar Nandi, Associate Professor of Botany is the Join Secretary, Dr. Nilanjana Banerjee is the Treasurers of this Seminar and the Dr. Prakash Karmakar, Teacher-In-Charge, Department of Botany & Forestry, Mr. Ram Kumar Bhakat and Dr. Gunjan Biswas are the conveners of this seminar. The overall seminar will include a total of 7 Scientific Sessions having one Key note address by Professor Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology, Jadavpur University. He talks on Drugs from our ancestors: Thrust areas for Medicinal plant Research, Prof. Anil Kumar Biswal, Professor of Botany, North Orissa University. He delivered his plenary lecture on A note on application of medicinally important plants used by different native tribes from Simlipal forest, Mayurbhanj, Odisha and Prof. V. Srinivasan Ramachandran, Bharathiar University, Tamilnadu, India, delivered his lecture on Medicinal Plant Diversity, Utilization and conservation of Medicinal Plants from the state of West Bengal and 12 Invited Lectures by eminent scientist from different parts of India like Professor Sobhan Kumar Mukherjee, Kalyani University delivered his lecture on Medicinal plants of West Bengal for the welfare of our people, Dr. Pabir Ranjan Sur, former Scientist, Botanical Survey of India delivered his lecture on Role of Ethnobotany in relation to medicinal plants, Prof. Rabindranath Bhattacharya, Presidency University delivered his lecture on Antimicrobial activity of some mangrove plants and green synthesized silver nano particles: A greener and safer way of fighting MDR Uropathogens Besides these a total of 17 offered Oral Presentation and 51 offered Poster presentations will be delivered by the invited dignitaries. The seminar will cover topics on different issues on different aspects of Medicinal Plants and their possible application.  The seminar is being organized under the auspices of the 2nd phase of  University Grants Commission based Special Assistant Programme (SAP)  of Department of Botany & Forestry whose thrust area is GPS positing, DNA Barcoding endangered and threatened plants of South Bengal, Herbarium digitilation, medicinal dye yielding plants, Fibre yielding plants,  hemiparasites of South Bengal and characterization of secondary metabolites. The aim is to explore on the endangered and threatened medicinal plants of South West Bengal and a good number of related publications have already done.

Total 220 participants including Post Graduate students, research scholars, scientists and faculty members from different parts of West Bengal and different states of India are participating in the said seminar. Prof. Amal Kumar Mondal, is the Organizing Secretary and Prof. Subrata Kumar De, Dean Science (Acting) is the Inaugurator and Chairman of the said Seminar. Due to busy scheduled Professor Ranjan Chakraborti, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Vidyasagar University did not attend. In the Inaugural Session Professor Prof. Subrata Kumar De, Dean Science (Acting), Vidyasagar University, Prof. Anil Kumar Biswal, Professor of Botany, North Orissa University, Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker, Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Prof. V. S. Ramachandran, Professor Shovan Kumar Mukherjee, Kalyani University, and Dr. Prakash Karmakar, Teacher In Charge, Department of Botany & Forestry were present. A book of abstract was inaugurated by Professor Prof. Subrata Kumar De, Dean Science (Acting), Professor Anil Kumar Biswal, Professor Amal Kumar Mondal, Professor Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Professor Shovan Kumar Mukherjee and Dr. Prakash Karmakar. Entire two days programme hosted at B.N.Sasmal hall, Vidyasagar University and Poster presentation held in the ground floor of B.N.Sasmal hall.
A colorful melodious cultural evening at B.C Mukherjee Hall from 6.40-9 P.M.by the second semester post graduate student of Botany and Forestry, Research Scholars Dr. Asim Mandal, Happy Das and ending with melodious song by Prof. A.K.Mondal, Organizing Secretary IARMP and Coordinator UGC-DRS-SAP-II.
The Ph.D. research scholars Ayan Kumar Naskar-UGC-DRS-SAP-II  Fellow, Anup Kumar Bhunia, Dheeman Mondal, Debashis Bhunia, Dr. Shilpa Dinda Hiran Kanti Satra, Suchandra Mandal, Bangamoti Hasda, Sayantan Tripathi, , Bubai Bera, Mamtaj Khatun, Sk Rasidul Islam, Dr. Sk Abu Imam Saadi, Mehamuda Parveen, Dr. Sanjit Sinha, Shibdas Maity, Dr. Saurav Dwari, Dr. Tamal Chakraborty, Dr. Asim Mandal, Bishnu Pado Jana, Deborsree Ghosh Das, Nandadulal Sanigrahi, Souradut Ray, and Dr. Pijush Kanti Das.

Post Graduate Students both M.Sc and M.Phil:
Balaram Patra, Bibortan Mishra, Rohanak Patra, Surajit Dey, Ajay Gayan  and the entire 2nd
semester student.
The two days national seminar has ended with valedictory session chair by Professor Amal Kumar Mondal, Organizing Secretary-IARMP-2019, Prof. V.S.Ramachandran, Prof. Shovan Kumar Mukherjee, Prof. Rabindranath Bhattacharya, Presidency University, Dr. Prakash Karmakar, teacher in Charge, Department of Botany & Forestry and Dr. Debdulal Banerjee, Join Secretary-IARMP-2019.
Among the 220 participant total 6 participants have awarded 3 for their best poster presentation and 3 from oral presentation, and handed over to the participants with a beautiful trophy. A special award to little scientist for her oral presentation. All the invited speakers from different parts of our country they have given their comments on this National Level Seminar “Grand success” it is a International standard and congratulation to Professor Amal Kumar Mondal, Organizing Secretary, Coordinator-UGC-DRS-SAP-II and the entire Botany and Forestry Department and his entire working team (both Research scholars and Students) with organizing committee. The seminar ended by a national anthem lead by Professor Amal Kumar Mondal, Organizing Secretary-IARMP-2019 and Coordinator UGC-DRS-SAP-II and DBT-BOOST-WB. All the participants, delegates, Scientists, Professors received their certificate.
